Designed to dominate a battlefield against a numerically superior foe, the Tiger served on all fronts and built a reputation in battle that no other tank of any nation surpassed. In Russia, Tigers frequently saved the German cause on many occasions and, even in battles such as Kursk, they destroyed many times their own number of enemy machines. The men who crewed the Tigers were an elite - none more so than Michael Wittmann and it is his Tiger, shown moving up to the front in Normandy, that Nick Trudgian has portrayed in this superb study! Wittmann will very soon engage the forward elements of the 7th Armoured Division in what will become a classic tank action. The Tiger has its detractors but there is one statistic that cannot be ignored - kill to loss ratio - and in that area the Tiger is in a class of its own - for every Tiger lost EIGHT enemy tanks were destroyed!
