A TRIBUTE TO 501 SQUADRON IN THE BATTLE OF BRITAIN
ORIGINAL PENCIL DRAWING FRAMED COLLECTORS PIECE
501 Squadron flew throughout the Battle of Britain in that glorious Summer of 1940. It was involved in some of the major days of the Battle, including the 18th August 1940 - the 'Hardest Day'. The Squadron accounted for over 140 enemy aircraft and is one of the most famous Hurricane Squadrons of the Battle of Britain.
501 Squadron (County of Gloucester) Royal Auxiliary Air Force has the motto 'Nil Time' - 'Fear Nothing' - and the Squadron Crest carries the famous Boars Head of the Duke of Gloucester - the most famous incumbent being King Richard III.
Many famous RAF pilots flew with the Squadron during the Battle, including 'Ginger' Lacey and the great Polish 'Ace' Stanislaw Skalski.
In Tribute to one of the greatest Battle of Britain Units Nicolas Trudgian has produced a fantastic Original Pencil Drawing featuring the Hurricanes of '501'. The Hurricane fighter of Pilot Officer Ken 'Hawkeye' Lee swoops low over a crash-landed Ju88A of KG30 that lies abandoned in a field near the South Coast close by a typical viallge, complete with church tower. Another Hurricane is accompanying Lee's home to the airfield where they will rearm and refuel for yet another sortie later in the day.
