BACK FROM NORMANDY By Nicolas Trudgian
Rare Remarque Edition
Released back in 2003 'Back From Normandy' features Spitfires of 126 Squadron arriving back over England after a dangerous sortie over the invasion beaches in the first few days of D-Day. The Spitfire IX's of the Culmhead Wing flew low-level attacks behind the advancing Allied spearheads - enemy road transport, airfields and targets of opportunity - all were attacked to support the Invasion.
The Wing was led by a Battle of Britain veteran - Wing Commander Pete Brothers. Having flown the Hurricane during that famous battle in 1940, Brothers now led the Wing in his unique Spitfire VII sporting a high altitude paint scheme and Nicolas Trudgian depicts the Spitfires flying home over an estuary to their airfield at Culmhead.
