CAPTAIN WILLIAM BEYER - US ACE 361st FG - Signed Card
William Beyer joined the 376th Squadron of the 361st Fighter Group in April 1944 when the Unit were still flying P-47 'Thunderbolts'. Shortly after, the 361st FG converted to the P-51 Mustang and Beyer scored his first victory on 17 September 1944 - an Me109G possibly flown by Luftwaffe Ace Klaus Mieteusch of JG26.
On 27 September 1944 the 361st FG was part of a massive US effort to bomb Kassel and the Henschal works with over 300 B-24 Liberators. It provoked a savage reaction from the Luftwaffe, which threw three 'Stormbock' Units against the Bombers - IV/JG3, JG300 and JG4 all flying Fw190A-8's.
The escorts had their hands full and Beyer claimed no less that FIVE Fw190's during the engagement, making him an 'ace in a day'.
Beyer is credited with 9 victories and died in 2016.
This is a very nice Signed Card.
