SIGNED Battle Of Britain FIRST DAY COVER - OBERLEUTNANT ERICH VON BERGEN - 8./ZG26
Oberleutnant Erich von Bergen flew the Messerschmitt Bf110 'Zerstorer' fighter in the Battle of Britain with 8th Staffel ZG26.
On the 31st August 1940 he was flying as a fighter escort to Luftwaffe Bombers when he became embroiled in a dogfight with Hurricanes of 257 Squadron.
Von Bergen's fighter was hit and he was forced to bale out of his stricken aircraft and made a POW.
Von Bergen was flying a Me110D coded "3U+HS" werk nummer 3396.
