BATTLE FOR AFRIKA By Nicolas Trudgian
The exploits of Rommel's 'Afrika Korps' in the Western Desert are the stuff of legend. Initially battling the British 8th Army and later American Forces, the desert provided the ideal battleground - largely empty of towns and civilians.
Supporting Rommel's forces were elements of the Luftwaffe and providing the fighter force was a Unit that became synonymous with the Western Desert - JG27.
It numbered among it's 'Aces' such men as Werner Schroer, Ludwig Franzisket and, of course, Hans-Joachim Marseilles.
Nicolas Trudgian's superb Pencil Print 'Battle for Afrika' depicts the famous Rommel himself in his sdkfz251 half-track being briefed by Officers. Above a 'schwarm' of Messerschmitt Bf109F fighters from JG27 fan out looking for enemy aircraft ahead of the advancing spearheads.
This rare Pencil Print was published back in 2004 and is rarely seen these days. It is signed by Artist Nicolas Trudgian and TWO Luftwaffe Aces who flew in Africa:-
MAJOR ERICH RUDORFFER - JG2
MAJOR FRITZ KELLER - JG27
The Print measures 16.5 x 12 Inches.
