KURT-CAESAR HOFFMANN - KNIGHTS CROSS - Signed First Day Cover

Kurt-Caesar Hoffmann joined the Imperial German Navy in 1912 and worked his way up the chain of Command. In September 1939 he was given command of the Battleship 'Scharnhorst' and it was under his Command that the great warship participated in 'Operation Cerberus' - the 'Channel Dash' - in February 1942. He also commanded the ship during 'Operation Weserubung' and 'Juno' before being promoted to Konteradmiral, thus leaving the 'Scharnhorst' before her epic sinking the following year.
