MARTIN DREWES - KNIGHTS CROSS WITH OAK LEAVES - Signed Photo

Martin Drewes began the war flying the Bf110C twin engined 'Zerstorer' or destroyer with ZG76, whose aircraft were adorned with a distinctive 'sharkmouth' marking!

He flew during the Balkans campaign and also in the little-known Anglo-Iraq war where he scored his first victory - a Gladiator biplane. His return to Europe saw him in the Netherlands but his Unit II/ZG76 then converted to Night Fighter missions - becoming III/NJG3. Drewes scored his first night victory on 17th January 1943 - a Short Stirling. By August 1943 he transferred to IV/NJG1 where his score steadily increased. He claimed three victories on the night of the 30-31st March 1944 during the disasterous RAF raid on Nuremburg.

By war's end Drewes had scored 52 Victories.

Martin Drewes died in 2013 aged 94.

This is a very nice signed postwar Photo measuring 6 x 4 Inches.
