GERHARD KREMS - KNIGHTS CROSS - Signed Photo
Gerhard Krems was posted to the Stabstaffel of KG27 'Boelke' on the 15th August 1940 during the height of the Battle of Britain. Flying the venerable Heinkel He111H, Krems flew 39 sorties during the battle and was awarded both the Iron Cross 1st and 2nd Class. The following year Krems, along with KG27 'Boelke' transferred East to take part in 'Operation Barbarossa' - the invasion of the Soviet Union.
On 10th October 1941 Krems had completed 110 sorties and shortly afterwards moved to 2nd Staffel KG27. He flew in sometimes appalling conditions and along the entire Eastern Front, including the hotly contested Crimea.
On the 21st May 1944 he was posted to a Staff position in 1st Fliegerkorps, where he ended the war. Although imprisoned by the Soviets after the war, he was released in 1946.
Krems completed 250 missions as a Kampflieger, most of them in the He111.
This is a very nice post war signed photo measuring 6 x 4 Inches showing Krems and his crew celebrating the completion of the 100th Mission.
