HELMUT VOGTLE - KNIGHTS CROSS - Signed Card
Hauptmann Helmut Vogtle was Kommandeur of II/Gebirgsjager-Regiment 99. Not much is known about this award - the 1st Mountain Division fought it's last actions around Lake Balaton in Hungary in March - April 1945 before surrendering to US Forces.
Helmut Vogtle's award of the Knights Cross is dated '1st June 1945' which is clearly AFTER the cessation of hostilities and also after Donitz had ordered that no more awards should be made (11 May 1945).
However, it appears that Vogtle WAS awarded the medal personally by General Albrecht Schubert, so it all depends on your viewpoint as to whether this constitutes a 'genuine' award!?
Vogtle died in 2010.
This is a very nice signed card with a dedication handwritten on the rear!
