HUGO DAHMER - KNIGHTS CROSS - Signed Photo

Hugo Dahmer joined the 4th Staffel JG26 and first saw action during the Battle of France in 1940. On 16th May he claimed his first victory - a French 'MS 406' though more likely to have been an RAF Hurricane! He also saw action at the evacuation of Dunkirk before flying the Me109E with 6./JG26 during the Battle of Britain. He claimed six victories during the battle - 3 Spitfires and 3 Hurricanes.

On 1st February 1941 Dahmer was, without any explanation or warning, trasnferred to JG77 in Norway. He suspected he had upset some senior officer but he never established the real reason. Between his move and the end of 1941 Dahmer had scored 36 victories - and was awarded the Knights Cross - by which time he was flying in JG5 'Eismeer'.

On 17th August 1943 Dahmer was appointed StaKa of 1st Staffel JG2 in the West. Flying the Fw190A, Dahmer scored two victories - a spitfire and a B-17 but on 11th September 1943 his staffel became embroiled with RAF Spitfires and Dahmer was shot down. On 10th October he was again shot down and severely injured. He did not return to combat flying, instead being in various training Units until wars end.

Dahmer scored 57 victories during WW2. He died in 2006.
