FAMOUS FIGHTERS SERIES
CURTIS P-40N WARHAWK Flown by Don LOPEZ
Mark Postlethwaite depicts the P-40N Warhawk flown by 23rd FG Ace Don Lopez. One of Mark's releases in the 'Famous Fighters' Series, it features the ubiquitous P-40 used by the US Air Forces after Pearl Harbor. The 23rd Fighter Group were the 'successors' to the legendary 'Flying Tigers' or AVG in the China-Burma-India sphere of combat.
Don Lopez joined the 23rd FG in October 1943 and scored his first victory in December of that year when his P-40N collided with a Nakajima Ki43 'Oscar', which lost a wing and crashed! He scored several more kills over 'Oscars' before converting to the P-51 Mustang, in which he sored his 5th Victory to make 'Ace'!
Artist Mark Postlethwaite has depicted Lopez flying his P-40N high over the Burmese Jungle in 1943.
