'DAMBUSTERS - THE MOHNE DAM' - Original Pencil Drawing by Nicolas Trudgian
The attack on the great Dams of Westphalia by Lancasters of 617 Squadron is the stuff of legend and was, without doubt, one of the most daring - and original - operations of the entire war. Guy Gibson led the attack which caused complete disruption to the German war industry as the water released from the breached dams flooded or swept away vital parts of the German war effort.
Using the now famous - and ingenius - 'Upkeep' bouncing Bombs, the Lancasters were required to keep a steely nerve as they flew directly at their targets at low altitude and needed to release their bombs at exactly the right moment.
Nicolas Trudgian has produced a wonderful pencil drawing depicting the Lancaster "P for Popsie" of Mick Martin as it thunders over the Mohne Dam distracting the defending anti-aircraft fire as the Dam actually gives way. In the background Guy Gibson's Lancaster is also attempting to distract the defenders as the Lancaster of Dave Maltby releases it's Bomb towards the already breached Dam.
This superb Drawing is on paper that measures 19.5 x 12.5 Inches and has been Signed by Artist Nicolas Trudgian and SIX 'Dambusters' and the Daughter of Barnes Wallis:-
