HEINRICH STEINMEYER - 12th SS PANZER DIVISION 'HITLERJUGEND'
Steinmeyer was only 18 years old when captured during the fighting in Normandy in August 1944. Being an SS prisoner, he was saved on several occasions by the intervention of Scottish soldiers.
He was sent to Cultybraggan Camp and several other POW camps - all in Scotland. He was well treated by the Scots and at War's end he decided to stay in Scotland, where he stayed until 1970. He returned to Germany because of the ill-health of his Mother and stayed in Bremen.
Upon his death in 2014 he left over £300,000 in his will to the Scottish village - Comrie - where he had made many friends.
This is a nice signed photo of Steinmeyer and the Cultybraggan camp.
