HOT PURSUIT By Nicolas Trudgian

'Hot Pursuit' was Nicolas Trudgian's very first Limited Edition release published by the Military Gallery way back in 1992. It immediately struck a chord with many collectors and launched the career of Nick Trudgian in Aviation Art circles.

'Hot Pursuit' features the P-51 Mustang of Major 'Kit' Carson of the 357th FG escorting B-17 Fortresses of the Eighth Air Force during the massive combats that raged in late 1944. A group of Me109G's has dived passed the Ace but he will soon roll his P-51 onto their tails to divert the attack.

The Print was originally Signed by FOUR Aces - TWO US P-51 Aces and TWO Luftwaffe. THIS Special Example has been Signed by no less than SEVENTEEN Pilots who fought in the Air Battles between the Luftwaffe and 8th Air Force in WW2:-

MAJOR LEONARD 'KIT' CARSON - 357th FG

'Kit' Carson was the Top Scoring 'Ace' of the 357th FG flying his P-51K 'Nooky Booky IV'. He scored a total of 18.5 victories, including 5 in one day!

MAJOR RICHARD 'BUD' PETERSON - 357th FG

'Bud' Peterson was another top-scoring 357th FG Ace flying his P-51D 'Hurry Home Honey'. He scored 15.5 victories.

HAUPTMANN ERNST-WILHELM REINERT - JG77 & JG27

Reinert flew the Me109F & G models in Russia, North Africa, Italy and Defence of the Reich. He was awarded the Knights Cross with Oak Leaves & swords and scored 174 victories.

MAJOR ERICH RUDORFFER - JG2, JG7

Rudorffer flew with JG2 'Richthofen' in the Battle of France and Britain. He later flew over North Africa and Russia before returning to Defence of the Reich duties. He flew the Me262 jet at the end of the war with JG7. Awarded the Knights Cross with Oak Leaves and Swords he scored 222 victories.

COLONEL CLARENCE 'BUD' ANDERSON - 357th FG

'Bud' Anderson was the third highest scoring 'Ace' in the 357th FG with 16.25 victories. He flew his P-51D 'Old Crow' in WW2 and later the F-86 and F-105 in Vietnam.

OBERLEUTNANT WALTER SCHUCK - JG5, JG7

Schuck flew Me109's with JG5 over the freezing Baltic sea before being transferred to JG7 to fly Me262 jets in defence of the Reich. Schuck was awarded the Knights Cross with Oak leaves and scored 206 Victories - 8 with the Me262.

CAPTAIN EDWIN 'ED' HELLER - 352nd FG

'Ed' Heller flew the P-51 Mustang with the famed 352nd FG 'The Bluenosers'. He scored 5.5 aerial victories and was the top strafing ace with 16 in his P-51D 'Hell-er Bust'. 

MAJOR WOLFGANG SPATE - JG54, JG400, JG7

Spate flew throughout WW2 on both Eastern and Western Fronts. He has the unique distinction of flying BOTH the extraordinary Me163 'Komet' rocket fighter AND the Me262 turbojet in action! He was awarded the Knights Cross with Oak Leaves and scored 99 Victories.

MAJOR ROBIN OLDS - 479th FG

Olds originally flew the P-38 Lightning with the 479th FG and became an 'Ace' in the type before converting to the P-51D. Olds added another 8 victories to become the only Ace in two different fighters! Olds flew P-51D 'Scat VI'. He later served in Vietnam flying the F4 Phantom!

MAJOR DIETHELM VON EICHEL-STREIBER - JG27, JV44

Eichel-Streiber served with the 'Condor Legion' in Spain before WW2 before serving in a number of Units in the early years of the war. He flew the Me109G with JG27 and the Fw190A with JG51. He was later transferred to Adolf Galland's famed 'JV44' to fly the Me262 jet. He was awarded the Knights Cross and scored 96 victories.

CAPTAIN WILLIAM ALLEN - 55th FG

Allen flew the P-38 Lightning before moving to the P-51D Mustang with the 55th FG. He became an 'Ace in a Day' shooting down 5 German aircraft in one mission! He flew P-51D 'Pretty Patty II'.

MAJOR HANS-EKKEHARD BOB - JG54, JG51

Bob flew during the Battle of Britain with JG54 and later flew in Russia with JG51 flying both the Me109 & Fw190A and later in Defence of the Reich with III/JG54. He joined Galland's JV44 flying the Me262 jet in 1945. He was awarded the Knights Cross and scored 60 victories.

HAJO HERRMANN - JG300 'Wilde Sau'

Herrmann originally flew He111 and Ju88 bombers in the early years of WW2. He later devised the 'Wilde Sau' nightfighter tactics that allowed the Luftwaffe to respond to the RAF jamming of their Radars. Leading JG300, he flew Me109F's and Fw190A's AT NIGHT! He was awarded the Knights Cross with Oak Leaves & Swords. He scored 9 victories - all at night!

OBERLEUTNANT WALTHER WOLFRUM - JG52

Wolfrum flew with the famed JG52 on the Eastern Front flying the Me109. In 1944 he flew against the US aircraft attacking targets in Romania and tangled with P-51D Mustang fighters. He was awarded the Knights Cross and scored 137 victories.

LEUTNANT ALFRED AMBS - JG7

Initially flying Me109's and Fw190's Ambs was transferred to JG7 due to the worstening war situation where he trained to fly the Me262 turbojet fighter. Ambs flew 75 missions in the Me262 and became a Jet 'Ace' with 7 Victories.

OBERLEUTNANT ERNST SCHEUFELE - JG5

Scheufele flew the Me109 with JG5 'Eismeer' and took part in defence patrols for the German Battleships 'Bismarck' and 'Tirpitz' in Norwegian waters. In June 1944 his Unit was moved to Normandy to counter the Allied Invasion and was heavily engaged. In December 1944 Scheufele was shot down by US Flak and made a POW. He scored 18 Victories.

UNTEROFFIZIER GUNTHER KOLB - JG5

Kolb flew the Me109G with JG5, initially over France with Major Weissenberger. He was later moved to Norway to conduct Coastal and Shipping patrols hunting for Allied Anti-shipping aircraft flying both the Me109G and Fw190A. He scored several victories.

This unique print has been Multi-Remarqued by Artist Nick Trudgian. He has depicted the P-51K 'Nooky Booky IV' of Kit Carson taking off from Leiston - and an Me109G of JG77 taxi-ing out for yet another Defence of the Reich Mission in 1944.
