HURRICANE COUNTRY by Nicolas Trudgian
Double Remarque Signed by 24 Battle of Britain Aircrew
Nicolas Trudgian released THREE Prints featuring the main fighters of both the RAF and Luftwaffe - 'Spitfire Country', 'Messerschmitt Country' and finally 'Hurricane Country'. All three depicted these famous aircraft over their own distinctive landscapes and 'Hurricane Country' is no exception.
Released to commemorate the 65th Anniversary of the Battle of Britain in 2005, Nicolas Trudgian chose to depict the Hurricane fighter in it's finest hour - during that decisive Summer in 1940. The Hurricane was the mainstay of RAF Fighter Command during the battle and accounted for more enemy aircraft than any other type.
The scene shows the Hurricanes of 501 Squadron, over a classic Sussex landscape, as they race back to base to re-arm and re-fuel. In the field below a Junkers Ju88A Bomber from KG30 lies crash-landed in a field, where two members of the local 'Home Guard' are keeping watch on the aircraft.
The Print was originally Signed by Pilots of 501 Squadron - this copy carries no less than 24 Battle of Britain Signatures AND Nick has also drawn a superb Double Remarque of a Spitfire and Hurricane together - a symbolic tribute to the Fighters that made victory in the Battle of Britain possible.
