HURRICANE HEROES by Nicolas Trudgian

Multi-Signed Edition - 11 Hurricane Veterans

The Hawker Hurricane and it's pilots were credited with four-fifths of ALL the RAF victories in the Battle of Britain and were the most numerous fighter type deployed. The Hurricane was designed by Sydney Camm to be easy to maintain, a stable gun platform for it's .303 inch machine guns and robust enough to withstand considerable battle damage and still get it's pilot home.

The Hurricane served during the Battle of France but it was in the subsequent Battle of Britain that it achieved immortal status. Flown by Aces such as 'Ginger' Lacey, Roland Bee' Beamont and a host of others, the Hurricane proved itself to be a magnificent weapon of war. The ONLY Fighter Command VC ever awarded was won by Hurricane pilot John Nicholson of 249 Squadron.

Released back in 2000 as part of his 'Diamond Anniversary Collection' commemorating the 60th Anniversary of the Battle of Britain, Nicolas Trudgian depicts the Hurricanes of 87 Squadron being led home by their leader Ian 'Widge' Gleed after intense combat with the Luftwaffe in August 1940. With wheels and flaps down they make their low-level approach to their airfield across a classic Summer scene. After re-arming and refuelling, the Squadron will be back in action soon.
