JG2 'RICHTHOFEN' IN THE BATTLE OF BRITAIN - Original Pencil Drawing by Nicolas Trudgian
Signed by 20 Knights Cross Holders who flew in the Battle of Britain
One of the best Luftwaffe fighter Units that took part in the Battle of Britain, JG2 'Richthofen' boasted a whole gallery of 'aces'. Among those who would go on to great things were Erich Rudorffer, Siegfried Schnell, Julius Meimberg, Kurt Buhligen and many others.
The very top Luftwaffe Ace of the Battle was another JG2 'great' - Helmut Wick who managed to score 56 victories before being shot down in October 1940. Flying as wingman to Wick was another future Knights Cross winner - Gunter Seeger - and it is his Me109E that is shown in Nick Trudgian's superb drawing. Flying 'White 2' Seeger has hit a Spitfire of 609 Squadron over the South coast. Another 609 Squadron Spitfire is now closing in. A terrific dogfight scene from the Battle of Britain.
