One of the great fighter leaders of the early war years, Muncheberg served with JG26 during the Battles of France and Britain, where he flew alongside the great Adolf Galland. He later was detached and his Staffel flew sorties over Malta where he immediately scored successes against the Hurricanes defending the island.
