KNIGHTS OF THE EASTERN FRONT By Robert Taylor
Published back in 1992 this Robert Taylor release quickly Sold Out and has been one of the most popular Luftwaffe prints ever since, depicting the highest-scoring Fighter Wing of all time - JG52. Having already seen action in the Battle of Britain and the Balkan campaigns, JG52 arrived on the Front in which they were to spend the rest of their war - the Eastern Front.
Led by some of the most talented leaders, JG52 began to rack up an astonishing number of victories. Men such as Graf, Steinhoff, Krupinski and Barkhorn became centurions over Russia but it was a new pilot - Erich Hartmann - that would out-score them all! by the War's end JG52 had the only two pilots in History to score more than 300 kills - Hartmann with 352 and Barkhorn with 301.
Robert Taylor depicts the Me109G of Gerd Barkhorn high over the Eastern Front in 1943 engaging Soviet Yak fighters in a head-on attack. His wife's name 'Christl' adorns the side of his fuselage on his Messerschmitt and Barkhorn eventually ended up flying Me262 jets with Galland's famous 'JV44' from Bavaria!
