LANCASTER UNDER ATTACK By Robert Taylor
Print and Book Set - Air Combat Paintings Volume IV
One of Robert Taylor's most sought-after sets, his 'AIR COMBAT PAINTINGS VOLUME IV' was released back in 2000 and the Print release, 'Lancaster Under Attack' immediately became a firm favourite with collectors.
'Lancaster Under Attack' pays tribute to the 'Other war' - fought mostly at night between RAF Bomber Command and the German Night fighters and Flak defences. It was a long, brutal and costly campaign that was fought under the most difficult conditions and resulted in heavy losses to both sides.
An Avro Lancaster from 628 Squadron has come under attack from a Messerschmitt Bf110G-4 night fighter over Osterfeld in December 1944. The huge Bomber has suffered damage but is still in the fight. Meanwhile, the Messerschmitt pilot is coming under fire from the defensive gunners on the Lancaster - he must decide whether to fight it out or go in search of another target. Duels such as this common in the night skies over Germany.
The Print is signed by TWO highly distinguished veterans of that long campaign fought in the dark skies over Europe:-
FLIGHT LT WILLIAM 'BILL' REID - VC
MAJOR MARTIN DREWES - KC with Oak Leaves
