SCRAMBLE FROM AUDEMBERT - Original Pencil Drawing by Nicolas Trudgian
Of the many Luftwaffe fighter units that flew in the Battle of Britain, none had a finer reputation than JG26 - led by its ebullient leader - Adolf Galland. Beginning the war flying the Hs123 biplane in Poland, Galland transferred to fighters and flew during the Battle of France. His reputation as a daring and skilled pilot quickly grew - and he was finally made Geschwaderkommodore of JG26 'Schlagater', which he led in the Battle of Britain.
Galland flew an Me109E adorned with his personal 'Pistol-toting Mickey Mouse' emblem and his was the only Messerschmitt equipped with a cigar lighter!
Nicolas Trudgian has produced an amazing drawing that features the Me109E of Adolf Galland leading the fighters of JG26 off on another sortie over England - and an almost enevitable clash with RAF Fighters!
