This Cover has been Signed by TWO JG27 Me109E pilots that fought in the Battle of Britain.

They are:-

OBERLEUTNANT JULIUS NEUMANN 6./JG27

Flying the famed Me109E with JG27, Neumann participated in the actions of 18th August 1940, called 'The Hardest Day' by many historians as it was one of the most hectic and intense days of the entire Battle. Neumann was flying Me109E-4 'Yellow 6' wn 1455 with his Staffel, which were providing fighter escort to the large wave of Ju87B 'Stukas' heading for targets in Hampshire and the Isle of Wight. During a confused dogfight with RAF fighters, Neumann's Me109E was hit in the radiator by .303 bullets, causing the engine to start overheating. Neumann released he could not return to his base in France and was forced to crash land his mortally wounded Messerschmitt near Shanklin on the Isle of Wight. Neumann was made a POW.

OBERLEUTNANT GUNTHER BODE - GRUPPE ADJUTANT I/JG27

Also flying the Me109E with JG27 during the Battle, Bode flew a mission on 9th September 1940 at around 1700hrs. His Gruppe were tasked with escorting German bombers but over Sussex became embroiled in dogfights with RAF Fighters, Bode's Me109E was hit in the vulnerable radiator by bullets from an attacking Spitfire and it immediately spewed vital coolant. Bode was forced to crash land his stricken fighter at Knowle Farm, Sussex and he was made a POW. Bode was flying an Me109E-4 marked '<+' wn 1394
