'TIGER TIGER' - PANZER ACES EDITION by Nicolas Trudgian
One of the most famous and legendary weapons of the Second World War, the Panzerkampfwagen VI "Tiger" was the heavy striking force of the German Panzer Divisions from 1942 onwards. The Tiger's combination of thick armour and deadly 88mm gun proved itself time and again on the battlefields of Europe. The Tiger could take on many times it's own number of enemy tanks and in Russia proved itself capable of attacking the awesome Soviet anti-tank belts that would have been impossible for other Tanks.
The crews of the Tigers were a special breed - supremely confident in their weapon - they used it skillfully in both defence and attack. Indeed, by the closing months of the war, Panzer crews found themselves hopelessly outnumbered but still gave a good account of themselves.
In tribute to the skill and courage of the men of the 'Panzerwaffe' Nicolas Trudgian has painted the Tiger Tanks of the 2nd Kompanie, SS Panzer Battalion 101 under the command of the famed SS-Obersturmfuhrer Michael Wittmann shortly after D-Day June 1944. The Tigers have hideen under the cover of trees to prevent them from being spotted by the omni-present fighter-bombers of the RAF and USAAF, who will attack any German armour moving towards the beach-heads. Wittmann will soon prove himself during the Battle for Villiers-Bocage.
